Cebu Passenger Tricycle Ride - Accessible Transportation in Smaller Roads and Streets

Passenger Tricycles are one of the most commonly seen means of transportation in Cebu. They are so-called because they are actually motorcycles with ingenious addition of a side car to accommodate passengers.

They are most commonly seen plying routes where roads or streets do not have jeepneys to take passengers to and from their nearby destinations. Other passengers also take this mode of commute as a means to get them in and out of the housing subdivisions. Then they would disembark on major roads to further take jeepneys.
These tricycle rides are actually banned from entering major thoroughfares to prevent further congestion of traffic. They are registered and regulated by the Land Transportation Office with number codings printed on the side-car body for the route they are limited to.

Fare usually differs according to the distance traveled along the route. Usually, for short distances they either are the same with that of the Jeepneys’ or slightly lower. However, for longer distances they may also be higher. You may ask fellow passenger how much is the fare to a certain distance or ask the driver directly instead.

These tricycles proved very useful and popular among many low and middle-income commuters in their economic and personal lives. Most small scale businesses benefit from the accessibility and economy this mode of transportation offer considering that they can also take smaller baggage of wholesale or retail goods within shorter distances away from the metropolitan area.

In many tourist spots or destinations outside of cities these tricycles are also popular mode of passenger commute to take them between neighboring municipalities within minutes of distances away. Tourists who travel in groups can also make informal arrangement with the driver to charter them to their destination directly instead of having to contend with series of stops to pick and drop other passengers along their routes.

The MyBus Prepaid Card and Freebies at Mactan Cebu International Airport

Upon arrival at the Mactan Cebu International Airport via Cebu Pacific flight from Cagayan de Oro City on a Travel-Light package I went straight to the arrival lobby where I inquired from the airport personnel where to buy the MyBus Prepaid Card. I was directed to a small booth at the right side of the arrival exit gate. I bought my initial Php200.00 MyBus Prepaid card. It came with freebies and the first ride to its SM City (North Reclamation) Cebu MyBus Station was free. Other freebies were included in the prepaid package including another free ride to anywhere within its route. Sure enough I arrived to the city with my prepaid card load still intact. It was way economically better than taking the taxi ride. Below are few freebies that go with purchasing the intitial Php200.00 MyBus Prepaid card:

The Php200.00 initial worth of MyBus prepaid card that go with freebies including two free-ride tickets. The other free-ride ticket was taken by the driver during my first trip.

The prepaid card are also accepted for use in the following SM establishments:
    SM Cinema
    IMAX
    Director's Club Cinema
    Snack Time
    SM Bowling Center
    SM Skating
    The SM Store
    SM Supermarket
    SM Hypermarket
    Savemore Market
    SM Parking
    National Bookstore
    Flawless
    Yoshinoya

It has no expiry and can be reloaded anytime. In a sense, it is also a multipurpose card. It is said that more partner merchants will be accepting the card soon. Please see the photo below:

I don't know if the freebies are promotional for a period. Perhaps, the promo would be replaced by other perks in the future. Just my opinion, though. Moreover, note that I purchased my card last Aug.9, 2016. Like I suggest, the freebies could either be taken away or replaced anytime in the future.
